Alice & Brian's Wedding
Alice and Brian's wedding at Kilkea Castle was the kind of day that never felt overly planned or formal, relaxed, full of personality and genuinely fun from beginning to end.
The morning set the tone perfectly. Brian and the lads headed out onto the golf course in their suits for a few photographs before the ceremony, less serious golf, more an excuse to have a bit of fun together before the day properly began.
For Alice, some of my favourite photographs came from the quieter moments with her dad. There was such an obvious closeness between them, and it made those photographs particularly special. Nothing needed to be staged or directed; their connection was simply there to be photographed.
Beautiful summer light, an ice-cream cart, a brilliant group of guests and plenty happening throughout the day made this exactly the kind of wedding I love documenting relaxed, personal and filled with real moments.
A Morning With a Difference
Wedding mornings don't always have to follow the same routine.
While Alice was getting ready, Brian and the lads made the most of Kilkea Castle's golf course. Suits, golf clubs and a bit of messing around made for some brilliant photographs and, more importantly, gave them time together before everything got underway.
On Alice's side of the morning, I kept things much quieter and more observational. Some of the most meaningful photographs came from the time she spent with her dad. Their bond was obvious, and those little interactions are exactly why I try not to over-direct wedding mornings.
Sometimes the photograph is already there. You just have to notice it.
A Beautiful Church Ceremony
After a relaxed morning getting ready, Alice and Brian made their way to the church for their ceremony surrounded by family and friends.
Church ceremonies are one of the parts of a wedding day where I step back almost completely. There's very little need for direction. The anticipation as Alice arrives, Brian waiting at the top of the aisle, the reactions from family and friends and all the little glances between them are already happening naturally.
For me, it's about being in the right place without becoming part of the moment, capturing the ceremony as it actually happened and all the emotion surrounding it.
Back to Kilkea Castle
After the ceremony, everyone made their way back to Kilkea Castle and the day immediately settled into a much more relaxed pace.
With beautiful summer light across the grounds, an ice-cream cart waiting for the guests and plenty happening around us, there was no shortage of moments to photograph.
This is one of my favourite parts of a wedding day to document. Everyone can finally relax, conversations start, drinks are poured and the photographs become less about the traditional moments and more about the people who make the day what it is.
A Few Minutes, Just the Two of Them
After the ceremony and once everyone had settled back into Kilkea Castle, we took a little time away for Alice and Brian's couple photographs.
With the gorgeous summer light and the castle grounds around us, we didn't need long. I gave them a little direction when needed, but otherwise kept things relaxed and natural allowing them to enjoy a few quiet minutes together in the middle of a very busy day.
I never want couple photographs to feel like a long photoshoot. Ten or fifteen minutes in the right light is often all we need to create beautiful portraits before getting you back to your guests.
No stiff poses, no pressure, just photographs that feel like you.
Dinner, Speeches & Dancing
As the day moved into dinner and speeches, I continued photographing things exactly as they happened — not just whoever had the microphone, but the reactions and interactions happening around the room.
And once the evening celebrations began, there was even less reason to interfere.
From speeches and laughter to the first dance and everything that followed, it's all part of the same story.
A wedding gallery shouldn't just show you what your day looked like. It should remind you what it felt like.
